School Tools Drive

Kenya’s Kids In Need
School Tools Drive

What? 100 calculators and 800 dollars to pay for teacher inservice training.

Why? 350 students share 35 calculators... teachers get paid $50 a month and receive no other training than that which they had when they were hired...

We built it and they came, some walking over 10 miles one way to receive a high school education. They are so grateful for this opportunity they leave the 10 x 10 tin sheet room they share with their family before the sun is up to make their way to school only to turn around and make the return trip some nine hours later and they do it six days a week year round with only a few days off between terms. Lorna Waddington high school was built brick by brick, dollar by dollar by donations from everyday people, no large grants or corporations. The mission of the school is to provide a quality education to orphans and vulnerable children who previously had no hope of going beyond elementary school. After celebrating the success of our first graduating class, who did very well overall on the national Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education school leaving exam we said “What now?”! We asked the teachers, “What can we do to help you help the children? What is needed to move beyond providing a good education to providing a great education?” Their answer access to teacher training and calculators.

Kids Just Wanna Have Fun!!!

The trip to the National Musicfest in Mombasa was not all work... for one very special day our young performers had a chance to just be kids! For most of the boys and girls on the trip this was the first time they have ever been to the beach. What a thrill to see the the ocean, swim in the waves and walk in the sand!

I really wish I could have been there to enjoy their excitment over all these firsts!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to all the people who made this trip possible! It was an experience of a lifetime for our students.

Music Fest Update..

Dear Tami,

The Music competitions are on.

GPS children performed yesterday and today, they will be performing their last item tomorrow and then go back to Nairobi. The WHS are performing today , tomorrow and Saturday and then leave for Nairobi on Sunday.

So far so good. They have performed well, and in the three main items they were ranked number two in two items and three in one item. We are all very happy with their performance , being that there was very high competition in all the items they have competed in.

Thankyou
FANUEL
